At ALS Hiroo, cultural events are a large part of what we do to give our students a rich school life.
From Tanabata to Christmas and more, we provide students with the opportunity to experience traditional Japanese cultural events as well as global cultural moments.
For February, we’d like to share our Setsubun event with you.
ALS広尾では、お子様たちに豊かなスクールライフを送ってもらうため、文化行事をとても大切にしています。
七夕🌠やクリスマス🎄など、日本の伝統行事から世界的なイベントまで、お子様たちが多様な文化に触れる機会を提供しています。
今回は、2月に行った👹節分👹のイベントの様子をお届けします。
For Setsubun, we start the event with what we are doing and why we are doing it.
The students learn about the changing of the seasons, what oni are, the different kinds of oni, and how to protect themselves from the oni.
The students try out the Setsubun phrases of “Onis out!” and “Good fortunes in!” as well as learning about mame-maki and throwing soy beans to drive away the oni.
The students also sing fun songs to engage them in multiple ways.
節分では、まず「今から何をするのか」「なぜそれを行うのか」という説明から行事を開始します。
お子様たちは、季節の変わり目について学び、さらに「鬼とは何か」「どんな種類の鬼がいるのか」、そして「どうすれば鬼から身を守れるのか」を学びます。
また、「鬼は外！」「福は内！」という節分のフレーズを練習したり、豆まき🥜について学びながら、実際に大豆を投げて鬼を追い払う体験をします。
さらに、楽しい歌🎵を歌うことで、多角的なアプローチでお子様たちの興味を惹きつけます。
Now it’s time for the fun part.
The students get the chance to practice their aim with paper oni targets before the oni comes!
Everyone is excited and the students are chanting “Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!” as they pelt the targets with balls.
Everyone is excited and ready for what comes next.
As the oni appears, brave students keep saying the magic words as they throw balls at the oni.
Our teachers support the students and encourage them to keep throwing.
Eventually the oni is defeated and runs away while the students celebrate their victory.
さあ、いよいよお楽しみの時間です！
本物の鬼👹が登場する前に、まずは紙の鬼の標的を使って、みんなで投げる練習をします。
お子様たちはみんなワクワクした様子で、「鬼は外！福は内！」と元気よく声を合わせながら、的に向かってボールを投げつけます。
準備は万端、次は何が起きるのかと期待に胸を膨らませています✨
ついに鬼が現れると、勇敢なお子様たちは「魔法の言葉」を唱え続けながら、一生懸命に鬼へボールを🔴投げます。先生たちも「がんばれ！」とお子様たちを応援し、力づけます。
ついに鬼は降参して逃げ出し、お子様たちは自分たちの勝利を大喜びで祝いました👏
Having beaten the oni, the students celebrate their victory.
The teachers bring back the oni, who apologizes to the students for scaring them and then leaves with his head hung in shame.
At the end of the day, the students have all had a terribly exciting day where they got to make strong memories with their friends and classmates against the mighty oni.

鬼を退治したお子様たちは、勝利の喜びを分かち合いました。
先生たちが連れ戻した鬼は、みんなを怖がらせたことを謝り、恥ずかしそうに肩を落として去っていきました。
一日の終わり、お子様たちは皆、強大な鬼に立ち向かったお友だちやクラスメートとの強い絆を感じ、刺激的で忘れられない思い出を作ることができました。
