At ALS Hiroo, writing begins with building strong foundations.
Before forming letters, our students practice tracing lines and learn to hold their crayon or pencil with the correct three-finger grip.

Proper grip supports control, comfort, and long-term writing development.
To make practice enjoyable and familiar, we often sing songs such as “Baby Shark” while tracing lines and patterns.
The rhythm and repetition help students build confidence while strengthening their fine motor skills in a fun, engaging way.

Once students are comfortable with their grip and basic line control, they begin tracing letters.
We use a structured approach inspired by the Handwriting Without Tears method.
For capital letters, we introduce Frog Jump Capitals — letters such as F, E, D, P, B, R, N, and M.
正しい持ち方と基本的な線のコントロールに慣れてきたら、いよいよ文字のなぞり書きに進みます。
私たちは「Handwriting Without Tears」の考え方を取り入れた、体系的な指導方法を用いています。
大文字では、”Frog Jump Capitals（フロッグジャンプキャピタルズ）”と呼ばれる文字グループ（F、E、D、P、B、R、N、Mなど）を学びます。
These letters start at the top, go straight down, and then “jump” back up to the top to add the next stroke.
The idea of a frog jumping back to the starting corner helps children remember where letters begin and reinforces correct formation from the very start.
これらの文字は、上からまっすぐ下に書き、「ジャンプ」して再び上に戻ってから次の線を書き足します。
カエル🐸が元の位置にジャンプして戻るイメージを使うことで、文字の書き出し位置を自然に覚え、正しい書き順を身につけます。
As students move forward, we focus heavily on Magic C letters, especially in lowercase writing.
Many lowercase letters begin with the same curved motion as the letter “c.”
Letters such as c, a, o, d, g, and q all start with this “Magic C” shape.
Once children master forming a smooth, controlled “c,” they can easily build other letters from it.
For example, they can close the “c” to make an “o,” add a tail to create a “g,” or add a straight line to form a “d.”
This method helps students recognize patterns rather than memorizing each letter separately.
It builds understanding, consistency, and confidence in lowercase formation.
さらに学習が進むと、小文字を書く際に特に重要な”Magic C letters（マジックCレターズ）”に取り組みます。
多くの小文字は、アルファベット🔤の「c」と同じ丸みのあるカーブから始まります。
c、a、o、d、g、qなどの文字は、すべてこの「マジックC」の形から書き始めます。
なめらかで安定した「c」が書けるようになると、他の文字もスムーズに作れるようになります。
例えば、「c」を閉じれば「o」になり、しっぽを付ければ「g」に、縦線を足せば「d」になります。
この方法により、お子様たちは一文字ずつ暗記するのではなく、文字のパターンを理解できるようになります🔦
その結果、小文字の書き方に対する理解力と安定性、そして自信が育まれます。
With practice, our older students transition from tracing to independently writing lowercase letters.
They then begin copying simple words and eventually creating their own sentences.
練習を重ねることで、年長のお子様たちはなぞり書きから自力で小文字を書く段階へと進みます。
その後、簡単な単語の書き写しに取り組み、やがて自分で文章を作るようになります。
Many of our students are now able to write their full first and last names independently and copy words with clear spacing and proper formation.
Writing at ALS Hiroo is a gradual and joyful process.
