A Day at ALS Hiroo Series: Thematic Lessons
At ALS Hiroo, thematic lessons play an important role in supporting children’s growth and development through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Each month, students explore a carefully selected theme that sparks curiosity, encourages creativity, and helps strengthen the developmental goals of their age group while making learning engaging and memorable.
Recently, students have been enjoying our exciting “Blast Off to Space!” theme. Throughout June, each week focuses on a different aspect of space exploration: Let’s Get Ready for Space, Our Super Solar System, Fun in Space, and Alien Adventure. By exploring one theme across several weeks, children have opportunities to deepen their understanding through a variety of activities that build on their knowledge and interests.
Thematic lessons are designed to support a wide range of learning styles through interactive, hands-on experiences. Throughout these lessons, students develop skills across all areas of learning, including Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. Through engaging activities, children strengthen important developmental skills while exploring exciting new concepts. For example, students continue to improve their ability to use both fine and gross motor skills independently through creative projects, movement-based learning, and imaginative play.
Recently, students learned all about astronauts and the important work they do in space. They decorated their own astronaut spacesuits, added photographs of their faces, and proudly transformed themselves into space explorers. Afterwards, they pretended to float around the classroom just like astronauts in space, using their imaginations while developing body awareness and coordination.
In another exciting lesson, students prepared for their very own space mission. After putting on astronaut “helmets,” and grabbing their space passport, they climbed into a classroom rocket and counted down together before blasting off into space. As they floated around the classroom, they searched for planets they had learned about earlier in the week, reinforcing their understanding of the solar system through active, play-based learning.
Through thematic lessons, children are encouraged to ask questions, make discoveries, and connect their learning across different areas of development. By combining imagination, exploration, and hands-on experiences, our monthly themes help nurture confident, curious learners who are excited to engage with the world around them.
ALS広尾の日常シリーズ：テーマ別授業
ALS広尾（ポピンズアクティブラーニングスクール広尾）では、テーマ別授業が、有意義で実践的な学習体験を通じて、お子様たちの成長と発達を支える重要な役割を果たしています。毎月、お子様たちは厳選されたテーマに取り組み、好奇心を刺激し、創造性を育み、その年齢層の発達目標の定着を促すとともに、楽しく記憶に残る学びを実現しています。
お子様たちがワクワクする「宇宙へ飛び立とう！」というテーマを楽しんでいます。6月を通して、毎週異なる宇宙探査の側面を取り上げています。
「宇宙に飛び立つ準備」「素晴らしい太陽系」「宇宙での楽しみ」、そして「エイリアン・アドベンチャー」です。数週間にわたって一つのテーマを探求することで、お子様たちは自分の知識や興味を基にした様々な活動を通じて、理解を深める機会を得ることができます。
テーマ別授業は、対話型で実践的な体験を通じて、多様な学習スタイルに対応できるよう設計されています。これらの授業を通じて、お子様たちは「コミュニケーションと言語」、「個人・社会・情緒の発達」、「身体の発達」、「リテラシー」、「数学」、「世界への理解」、「表現芸術とデザイン」を含む、あらゆる学習領域のスキルを身につけていきます。魅力的な活動を通じて、お子様たちは刺激的な新しい概念を探求しながら、重要な発達スキルを強化していきます。
例えば、創造的なプロジェクトや運動活動を通じて、お子様たちは細かい運動能力と大きな運動能力の両方を自立して使う能力を向上させ続けています。
最近、お子様たちは宇宙飛行士について、そして彼らが宇宙で行う重要な仕事について学びました。自分だけの宇宙飛行士の宇宙服を飾り付け、自分の顔写真を貼り付け、誇らしげに宇宙探検家へと変身しました。
その後、宇宙空間にいる宇宙飛行士のように教室の中を浮遊するふりをし、想像力を働かせながら身体感覚や協調性を養いました。
また別の授業では、お子様たちは自分たちだけの宇宙ミッションの準備をしました。宇宙飛行士の「ヘルメット」をかぶると、教室のロケットに乗り込み、みんなでカウントダウンをしてから宇宙へと飛び立ちました。教室の中を浮遊しながら、その週の初めに学んだ惑星を探し、遊びを通したアクティブな学習を通じて太陽系への理解を深めました。
テーマに沿った授業を通じて、お子様たちは質問をし、発見をし、さまざまな発達領域にわたって学びをつなげていくよう促されます。想像力、探求心、そして実践的な体験を組み合わせた月ごとのテーマ活動は、周囲の世界と積極的に関わろうとする、自信に満ちた好奇心旺盛な学習者を育む助けとなります。
